This is from Christmas morning. Ours was a wonderfully mellow day in pajamas all day. Just us, the cats, bloody marys, and a big breakfast! This is a tradition that I highly recommend and hope we continue forever!

I met this cute little hairless dog at Athfest art/music festival this year.

The owner said he always looks hungry to her

Sonny came to us about 5 years ago when he was still a kitten. Not a tiny kitten, but in that funny awkward almost full grown stage. It was a cold rainy night in late December and I heard a tiny "Meow! Meow! Meow!" outside in the rain. I went out our front door to check it out and a man who was walking by told me that this kitten wouldn't stop following him. I told him I'd come take care of it. I took a bowl of food outside and when I shook the bowl the kitty came running up to me. He purred very loudly for about 5 minutes before he finally stopped to eat. Once we were certain he didn't belong to anyone, we took him to the vet to be checked out and "fixed" before bringing him home. We named him Sonny because he was like a little ray of sunshine on that rainy night! We tried to keep him separate from Zuki (our white cat) for about a week to let them get familiar with each others scents under the doors, but he was so determined to meet her, our attempts failed and he managed to break through the barrier we put up. It took about 2 weeks of Zuki resisting and hissing at Sonny, and they finally fell madly in love with each other!

When we first adopted Sonny his fur was matt with dander and I sneezed my head off when he was close to me. Once he got healthier his coat became really beautiful and shiny and now he is just gorgeous! Not to mention, he's sweet as he can be!

After we had him for a couple of years, though, he started doing this weird coughing thing. He looked like he was coughing up a hairball, but nothing would ever come up. Our vet determined that he had feline asthma, which is totally treatable. He has to take 3 pills every night. It sucks, but he's a real good sport about it and takes the pills pretty well. Eventually we might switch him over to an inhaler! It turns out that feline asthma is so common that someone actually designed an inhaler mask that fits their tiny faces!

Anyway, that's Sonny's story. His nicknames are "The LION!", "Mr. Handsome" and "Daddy". He doesn't like to be held, but is extremely affectionate. He loves to be patted aggressively at the base of his tail! He has a tiny voice for such a big handsome kitty, and is most likely a maine coon mix of some kind. Isn't he gorgeous?!

obie & niner

i had so much fun visiting my best friend last weekend in nc. she has 3 german shepherds and a cat. i love it when cats and dogs can hang out together like this! obie is the cute kitty and niner is the beautiful dog. his name is niner because he was the ninth puppy born 8 hours after the other 8. he almost didn't make it, but now he's the largest of all of the dogs at about 135 lbs! what a sweetie!

here are our cats. sonny is the brown one and zuki is the white one. zuki is about 12 years old this year and sonny is around 5. everyday they cuddle up and look so cute that i just have to take pictures to preserve the moments! because they've provided me with a seemingly endless supply of adorable images, i've decided to create a blog to share them with whoever might enjoy them.

although they cuddle like this regularly, they do have their ugly moments too. if i can capture any of that with my camera, i'll share those as well.
